Trinity Flyfest Flows into Town (2024)
The Trinity Flyfest is a celebration of the Trinity River. Lucky for us the river runs through our backyard.
Flyfishing for rainbow trout is the main attraction. But the festival features all sorts of activities to keep you and your family entertained. Rock climbing, face painting, a kid fish tank, live music, and culinary demonstrations.
The Big Trout contest is always a crowd favorite. It gives anglers an opportunity to test their skills and compete for prizes.
For those interested in diving deeper into the sport of flyfising, the event includes casting instruction, expert presentations, and fly-tying demonstrations.
This year's Flyfest was produced by Streams and Valleys and presented by the Tarrant Regional Water District. It was held on March 9, 2024.

Maintaining the 26-mile Trinity River Floodway in Fort Worth is a major responsibility of the Tarrant Regional Water District. We do it to preserve the integrity of the levee system built to keep floods at bay. One of the primary ways we keep the levee system in good shape is making sure it's covered in a carpet of vegetation, which holds the soil in place. And that involves mowing - lots of it...
Sustainability Conserving Water

Conserving water. Sounds pretty simple. And it is. Doing the simple stuff, like making sure your irrigation system is functioning properly. Turning off your irrigation system for a few days after a good downpour. Fixing leaky faucets and running toilets. Replacing older, inefficient fixtures and appliances with newer, more efficient ones. It all adds up to big savings. And it’s one of the cheap...

    We heard rumors here at Cedar Creek years ago when this was ramping up that Lake Palestine would feed us and we would never get below 4' low again. That was some wishful thinking! We are approaching the 4 foot mark fast here in July 2022, days getting hotter and no rain in sight! (108° today!!)

    • @trwdtv
      @trwdtv Рік тому

      The pipeline to Lake Palestine is under construction. Even when it's finished there are no guarantees Cedar Creek levels won't fall 4 feet below conservation pool. As we are all witnessing, Texas summers can be brutal. We could definitely use some rain.

      @@trwdtv Its a good thing TRWD decided to go ahead with the wetlands for Cedar Creek. I imagine the population and demand over the next 50 years will probably outrun the resources unless some even bigger changes are met. I read something about another lake they did a feasibility study on back in the 60's and 70's, and its on the table to go should that demand prove overwhelming. Back then they thought it would put Trinidad under water, so levees were planned and whatnot. Lake Tennessee Colony, i dont think many people have ever heard of it, but it would fit in a spot right between Cedar Creek and Richland Chambers. Dam the Trinity itself for that one. I grew up on Cedar Creek from the 70's, lots of us 'grandkids' did, so we've seen the changes over the years. The changes over the last decade and the last few years shows us we havnt seen nothing yet. Brace for impact! Its Boomtown 2.0

      @@abdulkhalique4170 As long as you are converting the entire zone to drip irrigation, you can easily do what you are describing. You don't want to have drip and sprays on the same zone. Sprays need to run 6 minute cycles and drip zones can go for 30-45+ minutes. Depending on the size of your drip bed areas, you may want to convert two sprinkler heads (opposite to each other) on each side of the sidewalk and loop the drip line on each side in a grid pattern. Cap the other 4 sprinklers and good to go.
